Acanthus Snare Drum

The Acanthus, a collaboration between myself, (Reuben Spyker) Ronn Dunnett and Jeff woods. 
 
The inspiration behind the aesthetic of this drum was from a snare in Ronn's personal collection made by the legendary cymbal maker Roberto Spizzichino. We reimagined the heart and soul from that drum and used it to create something new which still echo's the unique character that I loved in Roberto's snare.
 
The spec's are a 14" x 5.5" Maple, Poplar shell which has a beautiful, rich/warm tone. We went with a slightly rounded bearing edge which is a nod to how the old Camco drums were made. Each shell has been antiqued by hand using a special process which I cannot disclose. We then stained each shell using multiple stains and coats to achieve this fantastic finish that highlights the aged look.
 
There are many details that we took extra time to include. Like hand stamping the name into each hoop and the serial numbers into the badge. The artwork seen in the labels as well as the Acanthus logo are all drawings done by myself. The leather spacers behind each of the single point lugs are actually cut out from an old blacksmith's apron which we repurposed.
 
The Red Ribbon used for the snare wires is that extra detail that just puts the drum over the top. We got a perfect match for the interior paint that ties everything together making the inside as beautiful as the outside.
 
This drum also features Ronn's famous R-5 throw off and hyper vent systems. The throw off can be adjusted to different angles depending how you like your drum to sit. An extra feature that most people don’t know about is that both the throw and but ends have a quick release mechanism to allow for a speedy head change out without having to remove the wires.
